Name: Colby Cardoza aka Ratto aka Clamato
Position at TPC: Bicycle Buyer
What you ride: Klein Quantum Race Why you ride it: For obvious reasons of course, that ice cream paint job, but pay no attention to that fat and luscious aluminum tubing. All jokes aside, I really love the look of vintage/retro frames with modern components. Old school parts look cool and may be period correct, but given that I’m a young buck, I can really appreciate the functionality of new components.
Fun facts: People here at the shop know that I buy, build, and then sell a bike before I can even ride it. This may be true, however I find a great deal of joy in finding frames I love and building them into my own unique pieces of “wall art”. So take a quick look at this beautiful rig folks, because it wont be in my possession very long.

Susan, is it solid orange or the yellow-orange fade? If you are up for a new pair of wheels altogether, you could shop a pair of used Mavic Heliums or Rolf Teams—both have bright red anodized rims and hubs that look great with Kleins in orange and they match the vintage nicely. Check with your local bike store to make sure your current gear set up is compatible before you buy. Otherwise, if you want new, anything Mavic will last forever.
Hi, I have a Klein Carbon Team X bike – sweet original orange – love it and need a new rear wheel, any recommendations??
thx
Re. D Cummings 7/6 question—-I have the same frame/paint as Colby…Klein dropped the proprietary press fit bb some time in the second half (?) of the 90’s so these Quantum Race frames have standard bb (English thread) and standard 1 1/8 steerer (Quantum Pro retained the proprietary 1 1/16 steerer a bit longer but adopted standard threaded bb). They are great bikes to build up and the paint (especially the Gator fade like Colby’s) bring a lot of joy to the ride.
How did you get a hollow tech spindle to work in a press fit bottom bracket shell measuring 35mm x 73. Also, didn’t you have issues regarding chain line?
Great Bike
I am restoring my 1986 Quantum Elite but sold my OEM fork…ugh!
Any idea on where I can get one? Anyone selling? I will repaint it’s to match original
Colby…fantastic bike…I have the same frame (and color) in Ultegra! I’ve purchased from the Pro’s Closet for some time now—great experience every time!!
