Shop Talk ep3: What's the perfect bike name?

By Spencer Powlison

Published

Why are most bike names so ... lame? We set out to create the perfect bike name. Bruce and Spencer go deep on what makes a bike name good or just meh. And we hear from some of the folks in our warehouse about the special names they've given their bikes. (They are some real good ones!) Plus, we take a trip to the museum to find the best vintage bike names. Mr. Scoboni, I presume?

THE FIVE BEST BIKE NAMES (ACCORDING TO BRUCE)

AS SEEN ON TV:
Yeti SB5
S-Works Shiv, S-Works Venge, Specialized Demo (All aggro names ... Chill out, Specialized!)
Salsa Scoboni (Not for sale, sorry!)

  • I think Rivendell is one of the best at naming their bike models. Ironic, given that they are the least “marketing-driven” bike company you will ever find. I agree that using letters/numbers for models is just uninspiring and lazy (“5500”, “C40”, etc.). However, one of the dumbest names of all time was “Addict”. I like the clever/funny names and one of my faves was: “Karate Money”.
