The SB140 puts 140mm of rear travel together with a 150 or 160mm (LR models) fork. There’s little consensus on whether this is an all-mountain bike that climbs or a trail bike that out-descends others in this category. And that’s a thing.

A long reach paired with a short-offset fork keeps your body centered over the wheels and the steering feeling light. In the small changes category that can loom large, Yeti made room for a water bottle inside the main triangle, which can simplify what needs to get carried.

What is the difference between the Yeti SB130 and SB140?

The Geometry between the Yeti SB130 and SB140 is impressively similar, however you'll get 34mm more of ground clearance at the base of the downtube on the SB140. Which means climbing on the SB140 is just as fast as the SB130, but getting the bike up and over big obstacles will be easier, thanks to the extra ground clearance. The ground clearance combined with extra rear suspension travel make the SB140 even more confident on technical descents. What about the SB135? Both the SB140 and SB130 utilize fast rolling 29" wheels, whereas the SB135 uses 27.5" wheels.

Is the Yeti SB140 a good climber?

The SB140 is a very solid climber, thanks in large part to the Switch Infinity suspension platform, which ensures minimal bob and power loss off the top of the suspension travel. It also provides excellent traction during climbs to make sure you can maintain your line and not put a foot down. Weight (around 31 lbs +/-), slack, and geometry are right where you want them for a good climber. The Yeti SB140 strikes a good balance of climbing efficiency, comfort, and traction.

How much does an SB140 weigh?

A Yeti SB140 frame with its carbon fiber construction weighs between 7 and 8 lbs, depending on size. A stock build of an SB140 weighs around 31 lbs, depending on the size and configuration. In a top end build the SB140 Turq can get under 30lbs, which is quite impressive for a bike with this much travel.

Yeti Build Kit Cheat Sheet (1 example):
LR T4 XX AXS Transmission
LR (Lunch Ride) = 10mm longer travel fork. This build started because the Yeti staff would always add a bigger fork to their bikes specifically for the local lunch ride from Yeti HQ - so Yeti decided to make it an official option for riders who like to get a little rowdier.

T4 = Turq, the higher end carbon frame you can choose from with each Yeti model. The number after indicates build spec. The higher the number, the higher the build kit. This particular build will get SRAM XX Transmission, which is the highest spec possible from SRAM. It'll also come with Fox Factory Kashima suspension and, of course, Yeti's proprietary and infamous Switch Infinity suspension design. Uniquely, all of Yeti's stock Turq builds come with DT Swiss XM1700 alloy wheels with an optional upgrade to carbon.
