Why We Love It
When developing the Mavic Crossmax Pro, the objective was to make it much lighter but also laterally stiffer than an aluminum wheelset — with identical impact resistance and, most importantly, with enough vertical compliance to achieve the ride quality synonymous with the Crossmax name. So Mavic took their exclusive Finite Element Simulation software to the extreme to find a carbon fiber layup that would give the rim the best possible balance of sought-after properties. To ensure compatibility with the most common XC tire widths, Mavic created a 23 mm wide front rim for stable tire sidewalls under hard steering forces, and a 23 mm wide rear rim for optimal power and acceleration. It is UST compliant for improved traction, puncture resistance and convenience, and the rim is sealed with specifically designed tape. Asymmetric rims balance the spoke tension, using 24 double-butted steel spokes to achieve that sweet spot between lateral stiffness and vertical compliance. The Crossmax Pro wheelset satisfies the desires of racers who regularly make it to the podium of races, from elite to weekend warrior.
