Why We Love It
The Specialized Diverge STR is a newer offering to the brands ultra-popular gravel bike. The Diverge has long been a heavy hitter since the early days of gravel with its front ""future shock"" technology being a major part of the bikes unique ride. Now, with the STR model, the Diverge not only delivers 20mm of controlled front suspension, but an additional 30mm of rear suspension directly below the rider with ""rear future shock"". Rear future shock is unmissable, it's almost certainly the first thing you'll notice at the top tube/seat tube junction, which was maybe Specialized's strategy by not hiding it. It's eye-catching and undeniable that you are riding one of the most modern innovations out of the Specialized workshop.

Does it work? Absolutely. We've had a small collection of Diverge STR's roll into TPC that we've been able to check out first hand and any potential polarizing aesthetic opinions aside, the technology delivers what it set out to accomplish. The ride is incredibly plush when you need it to be, but maintains a responsive race feel. Be sure to adjust the rear Future Shock to your weight (too much pressure won't tame the bumps the way you may expect, too little and you'll get more bounce than you'd like).

Additionally, the Diverge STR boasts an impressive 700 x 47mm tire clearance, which is more than you'll find on most gravel bikes, especially ones with this level of race performance. If you choose to max out the tire clearance you'll have the advantage of added comfort and control or if you choose a skinnier tire option, you'll keep a little more speed and have plenty of clearance between the tire and the frame for any mud build up (our suggestion if you're toeing the line at MidSouth or Unbound). Either way, the extra clearance is a win/win.
