Meet Duncan
What got you into bikes?
My dad says I was fascinated by bikes from a very young age. He was a cyclist and the only time I would cry was when he left the house with his bike. In my first few days of crawling, I crawled across the living room and pulled his bike over on top of me. It’s just always been something I have been drawn to.
Proudest cycling accomplishment?
Selling bikes for many years to a lot of folks. Getting people into bikes.
Favorite bike memory?
I have a few. My very first bike “tour” in high school was a supported tour around Ohio called GOBA. Riding the Black Canyon Trail just north of Phoenix with friends as a bike packing trip was fun times and great memories. Lastly, teaching and watching my kids learn to ride has been an amazing experience.
What type of riding do you do?
These days, mountain, road, and commuting. I don’t own a car.
Tell us about your favorite ride.
Whichever one gets me the best view of the sunset.
How many days a week are you currently riding?
Somewhere between 3-7. Lately, it has really just depended on my free time and desire to ride.
Tell us about your bike quiver.
Three, the favorite is my custom built Black Cat.
What bikes are on your current wish list?
I am trying to decide on a full suspension bike. I don’t have a front runner there currently. I would love to build up another Crust soon-ish. Probably an Evasion Lite.
Do you have a bike you let go of that you wish you’d kept?
Not really. I built up a Surly Karate Monkey that I sold pretty quickly without really riding that I wish I had spent more time on.
What's your favorite thing about working at TPC?
The people I get to work with.
Any cool bike trips coming up?
Going to spend a few days in Patagonia this weekend!
Do you prefer stock builds or putting together from the frame up?
I prefer to build a bike up myself, from the frame.
What's your favorite build you've done?
This is a hard one to answer…they are all my favorite as I’m building them. I have also had the privilege of building a lot of bikes up for customers over the years. That said, I guess I would have to say my Black Cat is my favorite as it is the bike I have kept, and will keep, forever.
