The Terra, Orbea’s gravel bike, started fast and capable in 2017. It leaned on Orbea’s road offerings, with a road-like ride that allowed 40mm tires. The Terra was well-received, but that wasn’t enough for Orbea. Updated for 2022, it tilts more toward gravel capability, with a lower bottom bracket, longer top tube, shorter stem, and room for 45mm tires, or 650b x 50mm tires. The second iteration shortened the chainstays while increasing tire clearance, making for a faster-reacting ride. And they still offer the choice of 1x and 2x shifting.

Orbea builds the Terra in their OMR blend of carbon fiber, designated with an M, or hydroformed aluminum, designated with an H. Both have three sets of water bottle mounts and hidden fender mounts. The 2022 carbon-fiber iteration has a storage box hidden in the downtube and rubber armor above the bottom bracket. The aluminum version has rack mounts. Both the M and H have several different build levels--the lower the number, the fancier the build--and different colors, plus Orbea’s MyO custom-paint program.

- Available in sizes XS to XL, accommodating a wide range of riders.
- Compatible with both 700c or 650b wheels.
- Fast and responsive, particularly on gravel descents.
- Long chainstays and All Road Geometry provide stability.
- Comfortable ride due to skinny top tube and seat stays.
- Sleek frame design with internally routed cables.
- The chain device and clutch-equipped rear mechanism reduce chain bounce.
- Tubeless-ready tires and wheels.
- Good clearance for wider tires.
- Large bottom bracket area for stiffness.
- Responsive hydraulic disc brakes.
Cons:
- The bottom bracket is prone to collecting debris and mud.
- Limited gear range for steep gravel climbing.
- The press-fit bottom bracket may be noisy.
Bottom Line:
The Orbea Terra H30 is a strong performer on both roads and gravel, offering stiffness and responsiveness for road riding while remaining stable and maneuverable on gravel. Its versatility and range of build options for various budgets and riding preferences. However, the bottom bracket design could be a drawback for some users, especially in muddy conditions.
