Garmin’s entry-level GPS bike computer has been upgraded with a hardware accelerometer and some features formerly only found on Garmin’s pricier Edge models. The Garmin Edge 130 Plus now has mountain bike stats and crash detection and adds ClimbPro to show the grade and your progress on climbs. Garmin is also rolling out a firmware update to allow the Edge 130 Plus to connect to your smart trainer. This is an upgrade along the lines of “more data is better,” but Garmin has kept the price the same as the Edge 130. You get more for your money and the Edge 130 Plus is more appealing to mountain bikers who want the smallest unit possible on their handlebars and want to take advantage of Garmin’s trail-specific features.
