Spring has sprung and you are ready to ride! How do I know that? Well, I’ve been picking through our data from winter 2022, and as far as I can tell, lots of riders made good use of the cold, dark months, picking out the perfect bikes for the coming season.
Here’s a look at the top used bikes from winter 2022 (January-March), according to TPC’s data.

Best-selling road bikes of winter 2022
1. Specialized Roubaix
2. Specialized Tarmac
3. Trek Domane
4. Trek Madone
5. Cannondale SuperSix Evo

Hey, wake up, folks! This isn’t as boring as it seems. It’s no surprise that Specialized and Trek are on top, but there’s more to it than that. While the endurance road bikes beat out the race machines for spots 1 and 3 in sales, the results are reversed when you look at the total number of views these bike models got. In other words, Tarmacs and Madones attract the looky-loos, but Roubaixs and Domanes close the deal.
For Cannondale, it’s actually reversed. More people viewed Synapse models but in the end, more bought a SuperSix Evo. In fact, the delta of views vs. purchases for those two bikes is pretty minor. I guess Cannondale buyers just know what they want.

Best-selling mountain bikes of winter 2022
1. Specialized Stumpjumper
2. Trek Fuel EX
3. Specialized Epic
4. Trek Top Fuel
5. Scott Spark
[product-block handle="2020-specialized-s-works-stumpjumper-l-2"/]
Yep, Specialized and Trek. The Stumjumper continues its reign on top, which comes as no surprise since it is such a versatile bike. Interestingly, the XC offerings from both big brands beat out their heavy-duty enduro sleds. The Specialized Enduro ranks 8th on this list, and Trek’s Slash is well outside the top-40.
One more curiosity: Approximately one-half of the Epics sold were S-Works trim, which far outpaces other Specialized models across all categories. Those cross-country racers love getting the lightest, trickest setup, I suppose!
Best-Selling gravel bikes of winter 2022
1. Specialized Diverge
2. Trek Checkpoint
3. Cannondale Topstone Carbon
4. Giant Revolt
5. Niner RLT 9
[product-block handle="2021-specialized-diverge-expert-m"/]
Is the line between gravel bike and XC bike getting blurry? Consider this: Specialized Diverge product views were roughly equivalent to the Epic in winter 2022. Diverge sales were 17% higher than Epic though. Trek Checkpoint blew the Top Fuel out of the water with 47% more product views and a few more sales. Gravel. So hot right now.
Interesting tidbits from the winter stats
The top metal road bike was the Specialized Allez, ranking an impressive 10th for sales. That tops some heavy-hitting carbon bikes, such as Pinarello’s Dogma, Cervelo’s R3, and BMC’s Teammachine.
Specialized Fuse was holding it down for the hardtails (and metal MTBs) in ninth for mountain bike sales.
Arguably the earliest adopter of gravel bikes, Salsa landed two bikes in the top-10 for gravel sales, the Warbird and Cutthroat. Its Fargo was not far behind either in 11th.
Sort of like Salsa, Santa Cruz is a core MTB brand, and it didn’t disappoint. Three Santa Cruz models made it into the top-10 in terms of sales. And one model was -gasp- a 27.5”-wheel bike! (The Bronson, if you’re wondering.)
You want options? Gravel is the place for it. With nine different brands in the top-10 in sales, this disciple has the widest variety. Compare that to MTB, which had only five brands in the top-10, or road, which had four.
One in a million: We sold just one of these super-cool bikes last winter: Squid Squidcross, Moots Baxter, Pinarello Crossista, and All-City Thunderdome, to name just a few.
