Products made in America are getting rare, especially when it comes to bikes. Don’t despair! There are still brave revolutionaries out there — small independent builders keeping the American-made bike industry alive.

Many cyclists dream about owning an American-made bike but sometimes it can take months or years to get a bike built. Buying pre-owned is one way to get an American-made bike at a great price, right now. Let's take a look at some American bike builders that we currently carry at The Pro's Closet. If you are in Colorado and want to check out or test ride any of our American-made bikes in person, be sure to stop by our Louisville/Denver bike store.

Quick Answer: What Bikes Are Made in the USA?

Yes, there are still bikes made in the USA, but they’re usually from smaller builders, boutique brands, and specialty frame manufacturers rather than the biggest global bike companies. Some American-made bike brands build complete bikes or frames in-house, while others design, paint, assemble, or quality-check bikes in the U.S. using frames or parts made elsewhere.

If you’re looking for bikes made in the USA, the best places to start are American builders known for titanium, steel, aluminum, or boutique carbon frames. Brands like Moots, Mosaic, Lynskey, REEB, Sklar, Speedvagen, Rock Lobster, and Argonaut are good names to know, depending on the type of bike you want.

Buying used is also one of the best ways to find an American-made bike without waiting months for a custom frame or paying full custom-bike prices.

What Does “Made in USA” Mean for Bikes?

“Made in USA” can mean different things depending on the brand. Some companies fabricate and weld frames in the U.S. Others may design, prototype, paint, assemble, or inspect bikes domestically while using overseas manufacturing partners for certain frames or components.

That matters because the modern bike industry is global. A bike can have an American-designed frame, U.S.-made wheels, imported drivetrain parts, and final assembly done in Colorado (non-biased, but the best state), Arkansas, Oregon, Tennessee, or California. If buying American-made is important to you, always check the specific model and year instead of assuming every bike from a brand is built the same way.

2026 Update: American-Made Bike Brands Keep Changing

The American-made bike world is always shifting. Some brands grow, some move production, and some sadly close their doors. For example, Guerrilla Gravity was once one of the most exciting U.S.-made mountain bike brands, but the brand is no longer producing new bikes. Meanwhile, brands like Moots, Mosaic, Lynskey, REEB, and Sklar continue to represent the handmade and small-batch side of American bicycle manufacturing. Moots still highlights hand-crafted titanium frames from Steamboat Springs, Colorado; Mosaic describes its bikes as handcrafted in Boulder, Colorado; and Lynskey continues to position its titanium frames as U.S.-handcrafted out of Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The takeaway: if you want a bike made in America, focus on the specific brand, model, material, and production year. Better yet, shop used, the American-made bikes that are hard to find new often show up pre-owned.

REEB Cycles was born after the founder the Oskar Blues Brewery decided he didn’t want to buy another bike-in-a-box made somewhere overseas. Instead he started his own bike company (“REEB” is beer spelled backwards). Design and fabrication for their mountain and gravel bikes is all done in the 100 year old barn in Lyons, Colorado, where the brewery began.

Lynskey Performance - Road, gravel, mountain

Lynskey GR300

The titanium Lynskey GR300 is a forever gravel bike.

Lynskey has been building titanium bikes in Chattanooga, Tennessee for 35 years. The bike-obsessed Lynskey family rose to prominence as the builders behind another legendary American brand, Litespeed. They sold Litespeed in 1999, but their passion for cycling remained strong until they finally returned with their namesake brand in 2005.

Sklar Bikes - MTB and gravel

For Sklar, beauty resides in curved top tubes.

Sklar bikes are instantly recognizable thanks to their distinctive curved top tube. But they aren't just good-looking, they're built with plenty of passion and attention to detail. Adam Sklar is a one-man team welding up his custom steel and titanium frames in Bozeman, Montana. The waitlist for his American-made bikes is long, (the less expensive, Taiwanese-made Super Something gravel bike is also available) but for many, these handmade beauties are well worth the wait. John Watson of The Radavist certainly loves them

Squid Bikes - CX, track, MTB, BMX

Squid SO-EZ singlespeed

This SO-EZ singlespeed is ready for SSCXWC or your next urban assault.

[product-block handle="2022-squid-so-ez-m"/]

Squid is the punk rocker of American bike builders. It gradually came into existence by building bikes for the grassroots cyclocross community in Northern California. At some point a group of "cyclocross miscreants" started spray painting bikes in their garages. Since then, unique home-brew paint jobs have become a key part of the Squid ethos. Grab a rattle can and go nuts!

Vintage bonus: Klein Bicycle Corporation

Klein AttitudeThe Klein Attitude was one of my boyhood dream bikes.

This is one for the history buffs. In the '90s, Klein pioneered the use of large-diameter aluminum tubes, and Klein bikes were far ahead of their time with modern features like internal cable routing and press-fit bottom brackets. We have a few Kleins in our vintage bike museum and have been lucky to have more than a few available for sale. (Unfortunately, this one has sold!) They’re getting rare, so if you’re looking for one you’ll have to be patient.

There are plenty more great American builders not listed here. Who's missing. Who would you like to see us carry in the future? Let us know in the comments!

American-Made Bikes FAQ

What bikes are made in the USA?

Some U.S.-made bike brands include Moots, Mosaic, Lynskey, REEB, Sklar, Speedvagen, Rock Lobster, and Argonaut. Availability changes often, and not every model from every brand is made the same way, so always check the specific bike or frame.

Are any mountain bikes made in the USA?

Yes. Some American builders still make mountain bikes or mountain bike frames in the U.S., including Moots, Lynskey, REEB, Mosaic, and Sklar. Used Guerrilla Gravity mountain bikes are also worth knowing about, though the brand is no longer producing new bikes.

Are there carbon bikes made in the USA?

Yes, but they’re rare. Argonaut builds custom carbon bikes in Bend, Oregon, and Allied has a strong American manufacturing history, though its current production model now includes overseas partners for some frames. Always check the specific model year if domestic carbon production matters to you.

Are Trek, Specialized, Cannondale, and Giant bikes made in the USA?

Most bikes from major global brands are not manufactured in the USA today. These brands may have U.S. offices, design teams, or history in American cycling, but most production is global.

What is the best way to buy an American-made bike?

Buying used is one of the easiest ways to find an American-made bike without waiting for a custom order. It also gives you access to rare, discontinued, or small-batch bikes that may not be available new anymore.
